Current open calls for submissions
the plumb bar
Artists are invited to apply to have their work featured on the plumb bar, an exhibition space inside the plumb's main lobby. We are seeking work that activates the bar for 2026 and aim to schedule three proposals. Please see below for measurements, proposed work can include the bar framing or not. You can also view past plumb bar projects here to see works we have programmed in the past.
The schedule (subject to change) will be as follows:
First Period: June 5 - July 20 - SUBMISSIONS CLOSED
Second Period July 24- August 23
Third Period September 11-October 9
DEADLINE for submissions for Second and Third Period: June 14 11:59pm
Each Accepted proposal will be granted $350. We encourage submissions in all mediums, including sculptural work! It is helpful to keep in mind that the plumb bar does function as a "bar" at our openings, and the front desk during regular open hours - so it is a high-traffic area and prone to bodies leaning / walking / swaying around. Pieces are able to be fastened with nails, staples, double sided tape, screws, etc as needed.
PLEASE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING IN A SINGLE PDF FILE (INCLUDING IMAGES) to info@theplumb.ca with the subject "bar open call 2026":
- your preferred period (2 or 3) or any periods you cannot do.
- brief bio / artist statement (max 300 words)
- a description of proposed work (max 300 words)
- 2-10 reference images
- CV (if applicable / optional)
None of these are strict requirements as we know submissions can be laborious and inaccessible, but please do what you can to introduce yourself and your ideas to us.
We especially encourage submissions from emerging artists that are Black, Indigenous, people of colour, women, LGBTQ2+ people with disabilities and other marginalized communities.
